Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, opened the first of the five national forums that will be conducted by the Office of the Attorney General for the purpose of disseminating the content and the scope of the New Abbreviated Criminal Procedure Law and “acusador privado”* ( Law 1826 of 2017).

Attorney General launched this academic event stating “We welcome Law 1826 of 2017 by which the Abbreviated Criminal Procedure will be regulated and we begin to implement the constitutional concept of acusador privado* which will let us not only to alleviate the judicial system by providing us with the necessary tools to carry out an effective trial in regards to behaviors in which less complex investigations are needed and are less harmful for social order but it  will also constitute the initial step for a more rational and strategic criminal policy to answer to the average citizen’ needs and to consider the limited resources the system has”

*Acusador privado: it refers to a private person (victim) that can file criminal complaints or charges against others for misdemeanor crimes, without the police or the prosecutor’s office being involved. Private Person should be represented by a lawyer.
