On Tuesday, Attorney General Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira called judges’ attention to the level of damage caused to public patrimony by corrupt people. This statement was made after finding out that decisions did not include preventive detention orders for people who were under investigation for alleged inconsistencies in the manage of resources at the Colombian Family Welfare Institute´s care (Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar – ICBF), Hospital Universitario del Valle, and the building of big schools in Guajira despite the fact that according to the Office of the Attorney General there were evident reasons to issue them.

Martinez Neira stressed that corrupt people cannot receive benefits and he stated that it is necessary to identify how they can fairly serve a preventive detention order with imprisonment, as a preventive measure, since they pose a risk and they can affect investigations.
