Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, informed that between January and October 2016 criminal complaints concerning domestic violence amounted to 99.805 in the whole country. He also stated “this represents an increase of 20.41% in relation to same period of 2015 and therefore, this offense proves to be the one with the highest growth rate in the current year”.
He added that when it comes to the amount of complaints, domestic violence has the third most common occurrence rate in the country, followed by theft and personal injuries.
It was possible to determine that in year 2008, murdered victims (women) who previously denounced domestic violence amounts to 2,3% and now to 10%.
For this reason, the Office of the Attorney General decided to give a priority to investigations related to domestic violence and 3.015 people will be charged with this offense and 650 of them will be arrested.
