Fabio Espitia Garzón was appointed Head of the Unit delegated to the Supreme Court of Justice in presence of the Colombian Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez.

He earned a Law degree from Universidad Externado de Colombia majoring in Criminal Law and a major in Criminology and Criminalistics in the same institution. He improved his knowledge of Roman law (Diritto Romano) at the University “Università di Roma La Sapienza” (Italy). Doctorate in “Tutela giuridica della persona” at the university “Università degli Studi di Bari” (Italy).

He worked as prosecutor at the Unit delegated to the Supreme Court of Justice where he was appointed as Head for almost five years and Interim Deputy Attorney. At the Supreme Court of Justice he worked as Associate Justice and trainer of Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training (OPDAT) for the United States Department of Justice.

He received a professor emeritus recognition from his alma mater Universidad Externado de Colombia. He also teaches at the Faculty of Jurisprudence from Universidad Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario. He has been a visiting professor at universities such as Bari (Italy), San Simon (Bolivia) and Católica (Peru).

Among his most important publications are “Responsabilidad y ética médica- Medicina, Ética y Delito”, “Nuevo Código de Procedimiento Penal Italiano”, “Ruptura de la Unidad Procesal”, “Código de Procedimiento Penal Comentado”, “Derecho Procesal Penal”, “La Extinción del Derecho de Dominio”, “Instituciones de Derecho Procesal Penal”, “Historia del derecho romano”, “El Digesto de Justiniano. Mística pitagórica y sistema clásico”.
