Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo Torres, stated that a transitional justice proposal “is legally possible, but also politically and practically convenient and feasible. That is the way to have an integral peace process and not as pieces as it has occurred in the past in Colombia”.
Referring to proposal of former president, César Gaviria Trujillo, in which transitional justice must be applied to all individuals who participated in armed conflict, the Deputy Assistant Attorney General stated that “ the Attorney General has always believed that there is an integral need to solve violence in Colombia”.
In the past days, former president, Gaviria Trujillo, assured in an opinion column that up to now we have heard about applying benefits to guerrilla members and public force from the so called transitional justice “but civil society, businessmen, politicians, Judicial Branch staff have been excluded and they have been protagonists in conflicts, in one way or another, and they have something to deal with Colombian justice”.
