In the context of the dialogue between Colombia and European Union concerning Human Rights, the Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo Torres exalted the actions of the entity in order to fight all against ways of criminality in the country, not only investigating AUC members protected by Justice and Peace Law, guerrilla members and criminal organizations, but also organizations engaged in Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation.
Senior Official stated that the Attorney General´s Office has carried out 17 “macroimputaciones”* against United Self Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) members who are responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes. Around 700 demobilized people from this group were convicted, 5000 corpses were exhumed and 2700 corpses were handed over to their relatives.
He also emphasized that this is a competent Office to investigate the ways these criminal organizations from XXI century act and backwardnesses of a country beaten down by conflict. With the structure´s Reform, the entity is prepared to fight against crimes that affect citizens´ security. At the Attorney General´s Office there is a political willingness to facilitate peace process.
The panelists who participated at the Human Rights meeting referred, among other subjects, to the progresses made in human right public policy and challenges concerning land restoration to victims.
The dialogue, in which participated the Deputy Minister in Multilateral Matters Carlos Arturo Morales, was attended by organizations such as Consejería Presidencial para los Derechos Humanos, la Unidad Administrativa Especial de Restitución de Tierras, la Agencia Colombiana para la Reintegración y la Agencia Nacional para la Superación de la Pobreza Extrema.
