Regarding the investigation into the murder of John Jeiber Mina Guazá, the Attorney General´s Office will establish responsibilities independently. The young man died as a consequence of gunshot wounds received during a military checkpoint carried out at a country side division called El Chamizo in the municipality of Guachené (Cauca).
The Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre explained that despite the fact that a criminal investigation has started, at this point it cannot be determined whether Public Force´s actions were excessive. The thirty three 33 men will be charged with murder of a protected person, personal injuries caused to a protected person, concealment, alteration or destruction of evidentiary material.
“We must investigate whether these murders were committed as part of their duty, if there was excessive force, and concealment of evidences” stated Montealegre. The Attorney General´s Office will determine individual responsibilities. He also stated, “More than thirty three people will be linked to the case but it does not mean that responsibilities are the same”
