Even though mistakes have been made in isolated cases such as the case of carpenter Ariel José Martínez, the extradition mechanism cannot be dismissed or disregarded as a tool to fight against crime

This warning was given by the Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo in the city of Neiva (Huila) when he explained that in this case a mistake was made during the identification process which became evident last September 8th when the Attorney General´s Office requested the State Department to corroborate the identification of the person wanted for extradition. For this reason, United States government withdrew the request for extradition.

Senior Official, reiterated that this mechanism has many benefits when it comes to dealing with organized crime and the current situation allowed to correct a mistake.
