The Attorney General’s Office fully identified human remains of two women who disappeared during the attack against Palace of Justice (Palacio de Justicia) which occurred between 6 and 7 November 1985.

The Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, also informed that these two bodies belonged to female guerrilla members who were mentioned in the so called Commission of Truth (in spanish Comision de la Verdad) which is composed of judges from the Supreme Court.

These identifications were conducted in compliance with decision handed down by the Second Specialized Criminal Court in Bogotá who ordered to take the necessary measures to identify missing persons in these events.  The Attorney General’s Office created two types of searches: (1) one search was based on the decision made by Magistrates from Criminal Chamber which referred to at least 11 disappeared people and a second (2) search based on unidentified persons in cemetery “Cementerio del Sur”.

The senior official explained that the Attorney General´s Office is trying to determine whether these people left the Palace alive between november 5 and 6 1985 based on the report of the Commission of Truth and according to testimonies of former employees from the Palace of Justice at that time.

According to forensic examinations, in the case of those corpses fully identified, their accuracy was 99.9. They were subject to laboratory tests (DNA analysis) by CTI officers from Genetics Team.

Scientific examinations conducted on these corpses also showed, among other results, that one of the corpses apparently received one gunshot wound and that any of these corpses showed incineration signs.

Garzón Reyes disappearance is mentioned at a final report submitted in 2010 by the Commission of Truth about facts occurred at Palace of Justice. It was based on testimonies from employees at the cleaning service.

Concerning Molina Beltrán, this report also mentioned that the 30th Examining Judge ordered in due time to open again an investigation to clarify her status (alive or deceased).

The Attorney General´s Office will conduct scientific investigations before handing over human remains to their families who are under notification process.First results from the victims identification process and criminal proceedings were obtained thanks to an internal notice in which the Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, redirected judicial investigations concerning Palace of Justice case and those regarding missing people, by appointing a Delegate  Prosecutor before the Supreme Court to assume all process as a whole.
