The Delegate Prosecutor’s Office at the Supreme Court brought charges against former Head of the Administrative Department of Security DAS, retired General Miguel Alfredo Maza Márquez before the Criminal Court of the Supreme Court of Justice for the events occurred on august 18th, 1989 at  Soacha (Cundinamarca) in which the presidential candidate at that time, Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento, was murdered.

The former head of DAS was accused as alleged co-author of criminal conspiracy due to alleged links with illegal armed groups,  murder with terrorist purposes in the case of  Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento, councilor  Julio César Peñaloza Sánchez and DAS security guard Santiago Cuervo Jiménez, also attempted murder of  Pedro Nel Angulo Bonilla, one of the security guards of Galán Sarmiento.

Currently, Maza Marquez is under detention in the north area of Bogotá.
