Criminal Investigation Team from the Prosecutor Office in Popayan (Cauca) with the support of SIJIN, National Police Officers, the Army and the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Cauca conducted an operation against illegal mining in Santa Rosa rural area, Buenos Aires (Cauca) municipality.
Five people were arrested in flagrant and one of them was the manager of the mine. Detainees must face charges of environmental pollution, environmental pollution by hazardous solid waste and environmental pollution by lawful mining development among others. There were also found hazardous substances such as mercury.
