According to the latest report of gender-based violence delivered by the National Prosecution Unit for Justice and Peace, there are 1169 documented facts of sexual violence that occurred from 1995 to 2005, between the cases listed include some abuse and sexual exploitation, prostitution and forced contraception, as well as submission to abortion, perpetrated by groups on the fringes of the law.
According to research the facts were committed by members and commanders of paramilitary structures like The Bloque Norte, Bloque Central Bolivar, Bloque Heroes de Montes de María, bloque Catatumbo, and the Bloque ResistenciaTayrona of extinct United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia. This type of systematic practices were used as retaliation against women for having links with the enemy group or exercise of power and submission status in populations where made the crimes.
According to the coordinator of the National Unit of Justice and Peace, Leonardo Augusto Cabana, among those responsible for such crimes also include the FARC guerrillas, with Elda Neyis Mosquera, alias Karina and Eli Mejia Mendoza, alias Martin Sombra, to those the Attorney charged them with crimes of violence based on gender title against humanity and war crimes.
Statistics reveal that 1169 acts of sexual violence registered women victims among the five and the 79 years, 25% of them were under the age of 14 and 30% was between 15 and 18 years.
