Six farms which remained anonymous since 1983 and belonged to the deceased drug trafficking capo José Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha, alias El Mexicano, were seized by the Office of the Attorney-General of Colombia in Pacho, Cundinamarca for “Extinción de Dominio” .
With the support of the National Judicial Police “Dijin”, the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Unit (in spanish: “Unidad de Extinción de Dominio y Lavado de Activos”) of the Colombia’s Office of The Attorney-General seized 3 farms in Timaná rural settlement, one in San Miguel rural settlement and another in Veraguas rural settlement, all in the municipality of Pacho, Cundinamarca.
In Timaná were seized the premises La Esperanza which is 1000 square meters in area; Líbano, 2000 square meters in area, and El Redil, 3000 square meters in area. Properties acquired in 1987 with a value of USD 1 million approximately.
In Veraguas, it was seized the premises Las Cruces which is 5 thousand 600 square meters and in San Miguel, the premises El Pino, 6 thousand 400 thousand square meters. Properties purchased in 1988 with a value of USD 1 million pesos.
The last farm seized and named La Quebradita located in Veraguas rural settlement has an area of 4 thousand square meters and there José Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha was born on May 1947. Although the premises initially belonged to his father, according to the investigation, aka “El Mexicano” pretended the purchase through a front company.
The Office of the Attorney-General of Colombia with the support of relevant authorities will initiate a technical study to determine the true value of the farms, which nowadays are used for cattle grazing and in that time were acquired by “Agrolacteos Don Jaime”, front company through which alias “El Mexicano” gave the appearance of legality of the drug trafficking proceeds.
The rest of “El Mexicano” properties were seized after the year 2000 and awarded to the Colombian Institute for Rural Development, INCODER,(in spanish: Instituto Colombiano de Desarrollo Rural) entity that later assigned said properties to several families in Pacho – Cundinamarca, who previously did not have housing.
