A prosecutor of Tadó (Chocó) was convicted for the offense of aggravated extortion, after demanding 300 thousand pesos from a transporter who was carrying a shipment of cement to Chocó region.  He extorted the transporter in order to return him the vehicle and its load which he retained.

This decision was issued once the Unit for the investigations of Judicial Officers brought forward the process against Adimel Chaverra Durán, prosecutor of this municipality, due to the fact that  in 2010 this official asked José Uriel López Patiño, driver of the truck that carried the goods, for money.

The driver decided to call the owner of the cargo, Efraín Restrepo Londoño, since he had the possibility of losing some benefits if he had to pay the bribery. The owner told the transporter that he would take the money; but on the contrary, he filed a complaint before the Operative Direction of the General Prosecutor´s Office which organized an operation to carry out the arrest.

As a result, Blas Elides Perea, Chaverra’s judicial Assistant, was caught in flagrante.

As to the Ex-prosecutor, the decision states it is a case of aggravated extortion  and the amount of the penalty will be known on April 26th.
