The Penal Division of the Superior Court in Medellín revoked the judgment of acquittal and the 28 years sentence in prison to Cristian Camilo Arango Rios for the murder of a moneylender in downtown of the capital of Antioquia department.

The victim, identified as Líder Argiro Muñoz Tobón, owner of a scrapyard and a business for money lending (pagadiario) in the area of the Retail Market in Medellin, was gunned down on February 17, 2010 in his own house by several men who reportedly used guns with silencer. In addition, the perpetrators stole collecting cards, a notebook, and 18 million Colombian pesos in cash.

On April 21, 2012, Rios Arango was acquitted by the Fifth Criminal Court of the circuit of Medellín, but to resolve the appeal submitted by the Prosecutor’s Office, the Superior Court revoked the first instance decision and sentenced him for aggravated homicide, aggravated theft and illegal carrying of firearms.

By means of a pre-agreement signed with the Prosecutor’s Office, Jhonatan Rios Arango – Cristian Camilo’s brother – and César Augusto Jimenez Jimenez were already sentenced to 25 years in prison. All the convicted are imprisoned in jails of the Judicial District in Medellin.
