The body of a woman, age 24, who was apparently murdered by his partner in a jealous scene, was found by members of the Technical Investigation Team (CTI) of the Office of the Attorney General of Colombia, after having been denounced her disappearance two years ago.
On April 30, 2011, Nidia Torres Benítez’s relatives reported to the authorities the fact happened on the rural settlement “Corral de Piedra”, jurisdiction of the municipality of Socota (Boyacá). The woman lived with Carlos Efren Cristiano Niño in common law marriage in this village, located on the road that passes by the municipality of Socha (Boyacá) in direction of Tame (Arauca).
Particulars supplied by locals indicate that during the couple’s daily life, scenes of domestic violence and threats by Cristiano were frequent against the woman, apparently for jealousy. The couple had six- and four-year-old children,
“In an interview, Cristiano Niño outlined the place where the woman’s body may possibly be found. The investigation began with forensic light and the corpse was found later by means of canine safety equipment”, explained the National Director of the CTI, Maritza Escobar.
Last February 21, the Office of the Attorney General started search operatives in the neighboring area to the couple’s home and, after a number of attempts, dogs trained in the location of dead human bodies found the corpse and, after analysis, experts determined that it was Torres Benítez.
On February 23, Carlos Efren Cristiano Niño was captured and, despite he indicated the place where the body was found, he did not accept charges.
