Once endorsed the evidence material submitted by the prosecution, six alleged members of “La Cañada gang has been remanded in custody by the 2° roving Criminal Court in Medellín, acting as Supervisory Court, for alleged involvement in the killing of an officer and two patrol officers of the Colombian National Police.
The following individuals were affected by this decision: Juan Camilo Naranjo Martinez, alias Gomelo, leader of the gang, Wilmer Jesus Zapata Cardona, alias Mandi, Deimer Asprilla, alias Monin, Andres Felipe Higuita Taborda, alias Andresito, Feider David Grajales and José Edilson Ossa Martínez, alias Edison, who were remanded in custody for triple aggravated homicide, aggravated attempt of murder, terrorism, aggression against a public servant, aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes and carrying illegal firearms for civilian and military use.
The defendants were arrested by the Colombian National Police last November 4, in a house in Caicedo neighborhood in Medellín, after a shooting, where Lieutenant Juan Jacobo Freite Zarta and the patrol officers Fredy Alexander Espinosa García and Diego Fabian Hernandez were died. Also the Police Officer Martín Alonzo García Tamayo was wounded. An alleged offender who has not been identified and who was carrying a pistol and a grenade also died in such action.
Nine rifles, three mini Uzi submachines, a pistol, three shotguns, three silencers, a fragmentation grenade, two communication radios and 3 thousand 900 cartridges of different caliber were seized by authorities in the house where the arrests were made.
Preliminary, arrests legalization and accusations hearings, as well as the request of the remand against alias “Gomelo , were held in a hospital in the capital of Antioquia department, where he is recovering from gunshot wounds suffered during the confrontation against uniformed officers.
