A prosecutor from Gaula appointed to the branch office in Bolívar (Seccional Bolivar) prosecuted six alleged members of the criminal group Los Salsas Mexicanos, allegedly involved in extortion against citizens and merchants in Cartagena.
The people allegedly involved are: Guillermo Alexander Ardila Lobo, Juan David Rromerín Jiménez, Yoiker Andrés Sánchez Cañate, Freider Sánchez Pájaro, Kevin Eduardo Sierra Sánchez and Yordis José Brochero Manjarrés. Based on their possible individual responsibilities, they were charged with criminal conspiracy and extortion (both aggravated).
They allegedly made illegal financial demands to merchants in La María and Esperanza neighborhoods. If the victims failed to make payments, they and their families were threatened with attacks. One of the victims witnessed her relatives being forced to leave the city due to threats.
Likewise, commercial establishments of citizens who refused to comply with the extortion were attacked with gunshots.
In compliance with judicial orders, the suspects were arrested by Gaula of National Police during raids conducted in properties located in neighborhoods such as La Esperanza, 20 de Julio, Villa Gloria, La Candelaria, and La Perimetral in the main city of Bolívar.
None of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges. By virtue of a judicial order, they must remain in prison.
