The Attorney General’s Office, through the branch office in Amazonas prosecuted five people for  being allegedly involved in the murder of a man on May 26 in Leticia. 

The defendants were identified as Francisco Padilha de Medeiros, Yuliana Alexandra Matapi Macuna, Gileny del Pilar, Thais Alithu Cardoza Bardales and Jaime Andrés Duica del Castillo who were charged, based on their alleged individual responsibilities, with aggravated homicide and illegal possession of firearms. 

Judicial police investigations conducted by members of the Technical Investigation Unit (CTI) in Amazonas revealed that the victim was shot while walking near a hotel. 

Padilha de Medeiros is believed to have fired the firearm that killed the victim. Once the crime was committed, the alleged attacker fled on a motorcycle that was waiting for him. The driver and passenger crossed the border into Brazil. 

According to testimonies and analysis of security cameras, prior to the murder, the defendants followed the victim, stayed in a place near the victim was staying, and established roles to carry out the murder. 

Considering the arguments presented by the prosecutor in the case, Padilha de Medeiros pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him, in contrast to the other defendants. At the request of the Attorney General´s Office all were sent to prison.
