At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge imposed a prison sentence against four men, who allegedly kidnapped a gold dealer in Segovia (Antioquia) and stole his belongings.
In an operation conducted by the National Police in Segovia, Remedios and Medellín (Antioquia), José Heriberto Ortiz Arias, alias Carpeta; Jeffri John Baranoa Martínez, alias Sergio; Deivis Javier Badillo Ortiz, alias Tomás; and Marlon Alfredo Jaramillo Alcaraz were arrested.
A prosecutor charged them with kidnapping for ransom and qualified theft, both aggravated. None of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to the investigation, on October 7, 2023, several men who were riding on a motorcycle and a truck, apparently, threatened the victim with a firearm and took him against his will when he was intercepted in Alto de los Muertos, which is located between Segovia and Remedios (Antioquia).
Three hours later, the merchant was released, after his family paid a large sum of money for his release. It was also demonstrated that the kidnappers seized jewelry and cash from the victim during the kidnapping.
