At the request of a prosecutor of Gaula in Cartagena, judges imposed prison sentences in different processes against three men who were arrested in flagrante delicto by the National Police when they were apparently extorting in Bolívar.

During the hearings, the Office of the Attorney General charged the defendants with aggravated extortion with attempt. They did not plead guilty to the charges.

The people involved are Jesús Leonel Díaz Berrío, alias Purru; and Jaider Luis Crizon Villa, who allegedly demanded money from various merchants and residents of the El Bosque, El Zapatero and El Milagro neighborhoods of Cartagena.

The defendants, apparently, identified themselves as members of the criminal group Salsas Mexicanas Nueva Generación and demanded sums of up to 10 million COP from the victims.

The threats were made through text messages in which photographs of the commercial establishments, family members and residences of the victims were sent while claiming that they would be attacked if they did not comply with the financial demands. The defendants were arrested in El Bosque neighborhood.

For similar acts, Deviar Jesit Ortiz Velásquez, alleged financial leader of the Clan del Golfo, was prosecuted. The defendant also allegedly extorted shopkeepers, owners of fast food establishments and merchants in Cartagena, Turbaco and Bayunca (Bolívar). His arrest took place near Turbaco.
