The victims that were identified in the process, were contacted in Medellín and municipalities in the metropolitan area. They were allegedly induced to travel to Europe through deception where they were held prisoners, their documents were taken away and they were forced to engage in sexual activities.
Knowing the testimonies of nine victims of a human trafficking network accused of sexually exploiting young Colombian women in Greece, and obtaining evidence, allowed the Attorney General’s Office to identify those allegedly responsible for contacting the women and inducing them to travel to Europe, where they were held prisoners and physically and psychologically subdued.
The people involved are: Paola Andrea Acevedo García, Evelin Andrea Gómez Ramírez and Juan David Ceballos Madrid, who were arrested in a joint operation with Dijin of the National Police in Medellín (Antioquia). During the proceedings, a firearm and 420 grams of marijuana were seized.
A prosecutor from the Special Directorate against Human Rights Violations brought them before a judge and charged them with human trafficking. Moreover, the man was charged with trafficking, manufacture or possession of narcotics; and manufacture, trafficking and possession of firearms.
During the investigation it was established that the defendants, apparently, chose young people in vulnerable conditions in Medellín and municipalities of the metropolitan area. With false job offers in restaurants and other public places in Grecia, they persuaded them to travel to that country. Previously, the victims were asked for a million pesos, photographs and videos, which the leader of the organization, who lives in Europe had to approve.
The women who were selected and managed to get to Greece were housed in nightclubs. There, their personal documents were taken from them, they were held prisoners and they were notified of an alleged debt that ranged from 3,400 to 3,600 euros for tickets, accommodation and food. This money had to be paid by engaging in sexual activities.
The defendants did not plead guilty to the charges brought by the Office of the Attorney General. Two of them must serve a prison sentence, while Evelin Andrea Gómez Ramírez must serve house arrest.
