The defendants would be responsible for stealing trucks and then asking the owners for high sums of money to return the vehicles.

The investigation led by the Attorney General’s Office made it possible to deal a hard blow to the criminal organization Los del Camión, accused of extorting transporters in Bogotá.

The people involved are: Daniel Gil Zapata, Gustavo Adolfo Ardila Arbeláez and Luis Carlos Marulanda Patiño, who were prosecuted by a prosecutor of Gaula appointed to the Sectional Office in Bogotá for aggravated extortion.

According to the investigation, since August 30, 2023, the defendants allegedly extorted the owners of cargo vehicles with payments of up to 50 million COP to return the vehicles which had been stolen days before.

The money had to be deposited in various bank accounts. Once the payments were made, the return of the vehicles was carried out in the municipality of Fusagasugá (Cundinamarca).

The Office of the Attorney General gathered information which indicates that despite the fact that payments were made, the financial demands continued, and the vehicles were not returned. The complaint of one of the victims led to the arrest of the defendants on October 21.

The arrests were conducted in Medellín and Angelópolis (Antioquia). At the request of a specialized prosecutor appointed to Gaula of the Sectional Office in Bogotá, a judge imposed a prison sentence.
