At the request of a prosecutor appointed to the Immediate Reaction Unit (Unidad de Reacción Inmediata URI in spanish) of the Sectional Office in Bolívar, a judge imposed a prison sentence on British citizen Jake John Paul Smith, allegedly responsible for trafficking, manufacture or possession of narcotics.

The facts under investigation took place on October 22 at the international airport in Cartagena. The defendant, 33 years old, allegedly tried to leave the country for Panama with narcotics inside his suitcase.

Inspections carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Police on passengers’ luggage who were travelling abroad detected an unusual weight in the foreigner’s suitcase. During the inspection, the authorities found two plastic bags containing 2 kilos and 156 grams of cocaine.

The foreign citizen did not plead guilty to the charges brought against him. The defendant was sent to San Sebastián Ternera prison in Cartagena.
