At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge imposed a prison sentence for Laura Vanesa Morera Benavides, Dany de Jesús Arévalo Ovalle and Yeiner Fernando Quiroga Yatacue. The defendants are accused of belonging to the 48th Front of the illegal armed group ‘Comandos de Frontera’, who were allegedly constraining the residents of San Andrés de Vides, rural area of Puerto Caicedo (Putumayo).
The investigations showed that the defendants were apparently in charge of proselytizing and making propaganda regarding the criminal structure, carrying long and short-range firearms for the exclusive use of the military forces. For this reason, the Office of the Attorney General charged them with conspiracy to commit a crime and illegal use of uniforms and insignia (both aggravated).
During the operation, the authorities seized a banner referring to the illegal organization, a radio, 1,125 gallons of fuel for processing coca paste, 9 black artisanal kits, 14 mosquito nets, 18 hammocks, 19 sweatshirts, 8 towels, 1 poncho, first aid kit items and dry food.
The arrests were conducted on October 5 by the Army and the National Police.
During the hearings, none pleaded guilty to the charges brought by the Office of the Attorney General.
