A court in Honda (Tolima) previously sentenced him in 2022 to 19 years in prison for simple homicide. The Prosecutor’s Office appealed the decision.

At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, the High Court of Ibagué revoked the decision in first instance and sentenced Marco Tulio Carranza Pineda to 20 years and 10 months in prison for the femicide of his former partner.

The initial sentence was issued on April 7, 2022 by a court in Honda, which sentenced him to 19 years in prison for simple homicide. Likewise, the secondary sentence of disqualification from exercising public rights and functions was also modified for a period of 20 years.

The case

The facts took place in a house located at Carlos Alberto Rubio neighborhood in the municipality of Mariquita (Tolima), where a woman was murdered due to multiple wounds with a sharp object.

On the day of the facts, the community warned the authorities after hearing a woman asking for help. Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the victim lying on the floor with no vital signs. One of the officers who led the case saw a subject coming out of a window who was chased by the authorities and arrested near his house.

The couple had lived together for 3 years and ended their relationship 8 days before. A relationship that was characterized for the constant acts of jealousy and physical violence.
