The evidence presented by a prosecutor assigned to the Sectional Office in Casanare allowed a judge of Yopal (Casanare) to sentence Luis Alberto Jiménez García to 7 years and 11 months in prison, after being found guilty to aggravated extortion and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The investigation corroborated that between 2020 and 2021 in the municipalities of Paz de Ariporo, Hato Corozal, Pore, Trinidad and some villages of Yopal, the convicted man extorted cattle breeders, farmers, businessmen, contractors, among others by demanding huge amounts of money in exchange for not attacking their families, their integrity and their assets.

Jiménez García went to the farms, commercial establishments, and the different places to meet with the victims. By using phone devices, he also served as intermediary between victims and his bosses who were in prisons and who were in charge of threatening victims and establishing the amounts of money for extortions, as well as dates and methods of payment.

The judge also imposed a fine of 5.700 current legal minimum wages.
