At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge from Sabaneta (Antioquia) imposed a prison sentence against Santiago Vásquez Balvín, 23 years old, allegedly responsible for holding a man against his will and stealing his belongings.

According to the investigation on June 21 in the municipality of Sabaneta, the defendant, together with another person, apparently detained a man who was traveling in his private vehicle.

According to the complaint, the alleged criminals identified themselves as members of the ELN. It is believed that the victim was tied to the back seat of the car where he was beaten. His gold chain, a smart watch, a cell phone, and the car were stolen. Shortly after, he was released.

Some blocks ahead, a police patrol stopped the vehicle, one of the occupants jumped out of the car and fled. Apparently, Vásquez would have activated the traumatic weapon against the officers, therefore he was arrested in flagrante delicto.

The defendant denied his responsibility for the crimes of simple aggravated kidnapping, aggravatedrobbery, threats with a non lethal weapon and fraud in a  judicial resolution.
