At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Eighth Municipal Court in Cúcuta (Norte de Santander) imposed a prison sentence against Jorge Enrique Vanegas Díaz, 33, for his alleged responsibility in the crimes of manufacturing, trafficking, or possession of firearms or ammunition and escape of prisoners.
The defendant was arrested in flagrante delicto by the National Police on January 13, as a result of home searches in the Cerro Norte neighborhood of this city, when he was found in possession of a 9mm caliber pistol-type firearm and 17 cartridges.
It should be noted that, when verifying the Vanegas Díaz’ criminal records, it was found that he has a house arrest in force due to a criminal investigation into the crimes of homicide and illegal possession of firearms.
The man did not plead guilty to the charges and was sent to La Modelo prison in this city.
