The Sectional Office in Boyacá belonging to the Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with the National Police, dismantled the Organized Crime Group ‘Los Caciques’, to whom several robberies in Tunja are attributed.
This action was possible after the arrest and prosecution of five men and two women who were brought before a judge. A prosecutor charged them with robbery, receiving stolen property, manipulation of mobile terminal equipment, and criminal conspiracy. They did not plead guilty to the charges.
The defendants were specialized in theft under the modality of stealth theft in crowded places. they stole people taking advantage of the opportunity factor.
The investigation that allowed the dismantling of Los Caciques began in March 2021 after a denunciation of a person who was the victim of this network that was affecting the security in Tunja.
The arrests were carried out by Metropolitan Police in Tunja. Two laptops, several cell phones and a firearm were seized.
The judge approved the request made by the Office of the Attorney General and sentenced six defendants to prison and another one must remain under house arrest.
