‘Gentil Duarte’, ‘Iván Mordisco’ and ‘John 40’ are prosecuted for promoting the construction of a highway in the middle of the jungle and promoting extensive cattle ranching, illegal crops, among other illegal practices.
The Office of the Attorney General presented the arguments before a judge in San José del Guaviare to formally bind the top leaders of the FARC dissent of the east part of the country, as allegedly responsible for sponsoring the destruction of the Amazon region in Colombia.
The defendants are: Miguel Botache Santilla, alias Gentil Duarte; Néstor Gregorio Vera, alias Iván Mordisco; and Géner García Molina, alias John 40.
A prosecutor of the Special Directorate against Human Rights Violations charged them with invasion of an area of special ecological importance, damage to natural resources, conservation or financing of plantations, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The defendants were declared absent defendant and the custodial measure will be requested against them.
The evidence material shows that there is continuous deforestation under the order of the heads of the dissent structures, in order to culminate the so-called corridor ‘Corredor Marginal de la Selva Amazónica’ an illegal road between La Macarena (Meta ) and San José del Guaviare (Guaviare).
Moreover in different operations carried out by the military forces and the National Police, at least six properties were detected in which were found seedbeds and coca plantations, laboratories for the processing of narcotics, cattle raising, rustic building.
These illegal activities that have been identified since 2016, have endangered soils, water sources, and wildlife in areas of special protection. According to technical studies, they have devastated ecosystems which are an important environmental connector between the Tinigua, Chiribiquete, and La Macarena National Parks.
