The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, announced in Medellín (Antioquia) that it was achieved the arrest and prosecution of five alleged perpetrators of the homicide of Lieutenant Colonel of the National Army Ricardo José Beltrán Jiménezthe thanks to a “joint work between the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police, ”.
They are Luis David Montoya Báez, Hérmenson Estiven Quintero, alias Estiven; Johan Fabián Carrillo Domínguez, alias Candelo; Andrés Felipe Hernández Reina, alias Pipe; and Pedro Germán Cabezas Muñoz, alias Cabezas.
The Office of the Attorney General charged the defendants as allegedly responsible for the crimes of aggravated homicide; trafficking, manufacture or possession of firearms or ammunition, aggravated theft.
The fact took place in the afternoon of October 17 when the officer arrived at his relatives’ house, located in El Jordán neighborhood in Meta.
According to the evidence, the alleged thieves approached the military man with a firearm to steal his belongings. The officer put up resistance and he was apparently fired by one of the defendants. The victim died before arriving at a health center.
“Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office and the Police reviewed more than 200 hours of recording from 63 security cameras and intercepted communications to identify those responsible”, stated the Attorney General Barbosa.
In three raids carried out in the main city of Meta, five cell phones, seven sim cards and a van that was allegedly used to follow the victim, were found.
“We want to tell citizens that the National Army, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Police, the Navy, the Air Force are working together to tackle crime and to be able to prosecute those responsible for criminal acts”, concluded the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado.
Their defense lawyer appealed the decision.
