63 of the 64 cases, which left 328 victims, are investigated by the Office of the Attorney General and the other one by the Special Indigenous Jurisdiction.
100% clarification of crimes were achieved in 11 Sectional Offices
The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, announced in Medellín (Antioquia) important results about the progress made in the clarification of multiple homicides perpetrated between 2020 and 2021.
During this period, the Office of the Attorney General was informed about 63 events (37 in 2020 and 26 in 2021) with 324 victims in Antioquia, Nariño, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Meta, Norte de Santander, Arauca, Cundinamarca, Quindío, Huila, Bolívar and Sucre.
Thanks to the work and the actions carried out by the specialized itinerant teams of the Delegate Office on Public Safety and the Special Investigation Unit (Unidad Especial de Investigación UEI), it was possible to exceed 68.04% of progress in the clarification of cases, which corresponds to 219 victims.
“The departments of Antioquia, Cauca and Nariño amount 50.32% of the total victims. However, the Office of the Attorney General´s efforts made it possible to achieve a 70% of progress in the clarification of cases in these departments. It means that when facts occur, the Office of the Attorney General clarifies them in less than 30 days”, stated the Attorney General Barbosa.
It should be noted that 11 of the 21 sectional Offices in which these crimes have taken place, achieved 100% of clarification, as follows: Norte de Santander, Quindío, Arauca, Sucre, Tolima, Putumayo, Medellín, Guajira, Boyacá, Bolívar and Magdalena Medio .
The evidence shows that the multiple homicides are attributable to criminal organizations such as Clan del Golfo, Los Caparros, ELN and the FARC dissents; and criminal structures, including La Agonía, Los Rastrojos and Los Pájaros. All these groups operate in the affected areas.
Based on the judicial activities, 128 arrest warrants were obtained, 55 of them were carried out against alleged members of the mentioned illegal organizations including the alleged perpetrators and masterminds. In addition, five people were arrested in flagrante delicto.
In total, 60 people were charged and were sent to prison.
The Office of the Attorney General obtained two convictions against four members of the ‘Clan de Golfo’. Concerning the first case, the defendant must serve 36 years and 3 months in prison for facts that took place in Salgar (Antioquia) on February 26, 2020; and in the second case, three men were sentenced to 22 years in prison for the fact that took place in Ciudad Bolívar (Antioquia) on June 15, 2020.
Among the departments with the highest occurrence of events and investigative advances are:
- Antioquia. There are 14 crime reports with 68 victims, with an advance of 79.41% in clarification related to 54 dead people.
- Nariño. There are 12 crime reports. To date, there is an advance of 57.14% in clarification related to 36 victims.
- Cauca. The Office of the Attorney General is carrying out seven investigations about 34 victims. In these cases, there is an advance of 88.24% in clarification, related to 30 victims.
