More than six tons of cocaine hydrochloride were ready to be packed and transported.

The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, announced an important result in Armenia (Quindío) in the fight against drug trafficking that was achieved thanks to investigations into crime structures that commit crimes in the southwestern part of the country which allowed the identification and location of a drug trafficking complex, which would be one of the largest sources of financing of the ELN’front Comuneros del Sur.

Members of the Technical Investigative Corps (Cuerpo Tecnico de Investigación CTI) in joint work with the National Army and the Colombian Air Force, and with the support of the US agency DEA, arrived at the area, in the jungle area of Samaniego (Nariño) and found a cocaine production complex with three laboratories surrounded by illicit crops.

The rustic structures, contrary to other constructions located on previous occasions in the region, had concrete bases and an independent distribution of each one of the illicit processes. As a result of the operation, six and a half tons of cocaine hydrochloride and 443 kilograms of coca base paste were found.

The drug was ready to be packed and transported to the Colombian Pacific coast and the border area with Ecuador. The drug was apparently going to be sent to Central America from that place and it would be received by contacts belonging to the Mexican cartels.

About two tons of solid supplies (lime, caustic soda, potassium permanganate, activated carbon, cement and metabisulfite), just over 7,000 gallons of liquid precursors (ketones, sulfuric acid, chloroform and hydrochloric acid), metal molds, adhesive plastic labels, rolls of tape, weights, air extractors, vacuum packers and microwave ovens were also seized.

In a joint operation with the National Army, Air Force and CTI, 6 tons of cocaine hydrochloride were destroyed in the department of Nariño.

This place had accommodations for 50 people and 600 kilograms of food.

The cocaine, machinery, and other items that were found there would exceed 9 million dollars. The evidence shows that the illicit production was in charge of alias Fercho, head of the Jaime Toño Obando company of the ELN’s front Comuneros del Sur.

“This result is part of the persecution strategy in regional corridors in which the Attorney General’s Office and the Police have achieved the seizure of a total of 137 tons of cocaine and 138 of marijuana, obtaining a total of 275 tons seized and the destruction of 214 laboratories so far this year”, stated the Attorney General.
