After analyzing the evidence collected by the Attorney General’s Office, the 11th Circuit Court of Medellín (Antioquia) approved the preliminary agreement and sentenced Lina Marcela Pérez Álvarez to 16 years and 8 months in prison, as the perpetrator of the murder of the political leader Campo Elías Galindo Álvarez, a member of the Colombia Humana political party.

The decision derives from facts that took place on September 28, 2020 in neighborhood La América, in Antioquia, in which Galindo Álvarez was murdered in his own apartment.

The corpse of the victim was found at the scene and, according to medical examiners of  Medicina Legal, he had a trauma in the chest that was caused by a knife.

Due to this fact, the defendant remains deprived of her liberty in a prison since November 10, 2020 since in a joint operation between the Office of the Attorney General and members of the Dijín and Sijín arrested her in Medellín (Antioquia).

This result was achieved within the framework of the strategy to clarify the murders committed against human rights defenders and social leaders. A strategy that was implemented by the Special Investigation Unit (Unidad Especial de Investigación UEI for its initials in Spanish) of the Attorney General´s Office, which demonstrated the responsibility of the woman for aggravated homicide.

This decision was pronounced in the first instance, and it may be challenged by legal remedies.
