In a joint statement made by the Minister of Defense Diego Molano; the Director of the National Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas; and the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, the representative of the accusing body expressed his rejection because of the murders of three police officers perpetrated in the last 48 hours in Sucre and Antioquia. For this reason, he announced that he is strengthening with investigators, experts and prosecutors the fight against criminal organizations that are affecting the region of Bajo Cauca, south of Córdoba and the Department of Sucre. The objective is to attack them in an overwhelming way.
The evidence collected allowed to establish that the orders to carry out the murders were perpetrated by the substructure Jorge Iván Arboleda, that commits crimes in the municipality of Segovia (Antioquia), the substructure Uldar Cardona Rueda which operates in Guaranda (Sucre), and also the substructure ‘Moreno Peñate’ that operates in the municipality of Caucasia (Antioquia).
The Office of the Attorney General has relevant information that shows that the murders were committed by the main members of Clan del Golfo including alias Chrimoya, and that two million pesos were paid to carry out the attacks against the police officers, as retaliation for the death of alias Marihuano, second leader of that Organized Armed Group.
In a joint action between the Office of the Attorney General and the Police, three men were arrested for these crimes and will be brought before a supervisory judge. A motorcycle and four firearms that were allegedly used to shoot the soldiers were seized. The Office of the Attorney General will charge them with aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and illegal possession of weapons.
The attacks
On February 13 at 11:30 pm, in Guaranda (Sucre), in the neighborhood known as 20 de Julio, two soldiers were shot to death when they arrived to mediate in an alleged fight. Police officers Luis Beltrán and Pablo Mosquera died in the attack.
On February 14, in Caucasia (Antioquia), the patrol officer Edison Parra was murdered. The hitmen were riding a motorcycle. The perpetrators of the crime were arrested.
The Office of the Attorney General will strengthen the strategy to prosecute the members of criminal organizations that today plan to assassinate police officers. We are a single institution with the public force and the military forces.
Strategic actions in Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca)
The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, also announced that concerning the acts of violence that are taking place in Buenaventura, he ordered the transfer of the headquarters of the Sectional Office in Buga, Valle del Cauca, so that, it will operate from the port. “We are not going to allow that actions like those that have been taking place continue. On three occasions that we have been in the port of Buenaventura we have achieved concrete results, for now, the Office of the Attorney General in Valle del Cauca makes a strategic move”, he emphasized.
