In August, the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police carried out investigations and operations in 20 Departments and three main cities.

As part of the Strategic Direction defined by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, the actions to tackle public safety problems in the country were focused on dismantling the criminal structures that affect Colombian citizens and that benefit from activities such as kidnapping and extortion.

In this sense, during the 31 days of August, the Delegate Office  on Public Safety, through its branch offices, and Gaula- National Police launched a gigantic offensive to arrest and prosecute those people responsible for intimidating the population by extorting.

This joint work allowed to dismantle 28 gangs involved in kidnappings and extortions and  219 people were arrested for these two crimes. The procedures were carried out in 20 Departments, the Magdalena Medio region and three main cities (Bogotá, Cali and Medellín).
