The Office of the Attorney General achieved that 190 verdicts convictions were returned in the first 6 months of the year for domestic violence in Antioquia and the  municipalities of Itagüí, Bello y Sabaneta.

According to the prosecutors appointed to the Center for Assistance of victims of Domestic Violence (Centro de Atención a Víctimas de Violencia Intrafamiliar (Cavif) in Spanish) and who are in these municipalities, the victims of that crime were women and children with ages ranging from 4 to 90 years. 

In more than100 cases, the attacks were related to alcohol and drug consumption by the offenders who had elementary or secondary school (most of them). 

More than 95 percent of the sentences were carried out thanks to agreements (plea bargain) and sentences ranged from 12 and 72 months in prison. 

The accusing body proved that more than half of the convicted people were repeat offenders of same criminal conduct against their victims, mostly couples and former partners of the aggressors. Another important number of those sentenced were sons and brothers, 27 and 15 cases, respectively.
