On June 29, 2020, in a property located in rural settlement of Puerto Alegría in the municipality of Garzón (Huila), the parents of a 4-year-old girl noticed her absence at 8:30 p.m. and accompanied by their neighbors, they began her search. Initially, they found a sandal and a cell phone in the downstream area of the river. When they followed the traces, they found the girl along the riverbank of Caguancito in the middle of two stones in an unconscious state and semi-nude. Just two meters from the site, the alleged perpetrator, a worker of the region, was sitting on a stone and with his pants down. This fact caused a confrontation with the community. He was also handed over by the community to Sijín.
Due to the serious injuries of the minor, she was taken to a hospital of the city of Neiva (Huila) where it was found that she was a victim of extreme sexual and physical violence. This is the reason why she fell into coma. Her prognosis is reserved due the multiple injuries that he received in his private parts and in the rest of the body, head, face, chest, and abdomen.
In a hearing (audiencias concentradas in Spanis) which took place on June 30, before a supervisory judge, the arrest of Sebastián Mieles Betín, 27, was legalized. He was charged with attempted aggravated femicide and aggravated violent sexual assault (since victim was under 14 years old). He did not plea guilty to the charges.
