Home detention order for a Colombian citizen coming from the United States for failure to comply with health protocols.
As part of the verifications and monitoring carried out by the Office of the Attorney General due to the sanitary measures imposed by the National Government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), another case of alleged non-compliance with health protocols established for people arriving from abroad was discovered.
In Valledupar, a Colombian citizen who lives in the United States was arrested. She arrived at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on March 18th. Upon her entry, migration authorities in Colombia informed the woman about the restrictions she had and the isolation process she had to comply as a precautionary measure.
This person allegedly ignored all the orders. She traveled to the capital of the Department of Cesar and stayed in a hotel. There, she was arrested and she had to undergo medical protocols established for nationals and foreigners arriving from other countries.
In a virtual hearing that took place in Valledupar (Cesar), the arrested woman was charged with violation of health measures. She did not plead guilty to the charges. At the request of the prosecutor hearing the case, the supervisory judge issued a home detention order and insisted on the urgency to respect all medical indications.
It is important to highlight that a person who violates a sanitary measure shall be punished with imprisonment of four (4) to eight (8) years.
The Office of the Attorney General makes this information public for reasons of general interest.
