Kidnappings would have been committed with the help of corrupt National Police officers. The perpetrators obtained more than 47,000 million pesos for the release of the victims.
At the request of the Office of the Attorney General, a preventive detention order with imprisonment was issued by the 42nd Municipal Criminal Court in Medellin (Guarantee Court)* against Edgar Humberto Restrepo Benjumea, alias Mono Clinton, alleged ringleader of the National Liberation Army (ELN).
Alias Mono Clinton, 52-year-old, was arrested by the National Police this August 1st in the so-called Loreto neighborhood located in Medellin when he was in a vehicle with tinted glasses.
Investigators have established that the defendant has two original ID documents in the name of Luis Fernando Restrepo Bedoya and Edgar Humberto Restrepo Benjumea.
According to the investigation carried out by the Office of the Attorney General, the alleged guerilla man would have participated in the kidnapping of an engineer from Antioquia in April 2015. The victim was released in 2017 after a millionaire sum of money was paid to captors. The engineer was kidnapped by a group of police officers when he was going to meet with a stranger to discuss about the rent of one of his properties. It was determined that the kidnappers received more than 2,500 million pesos for their release.
