On November 11, the Office of the Attorney General was informed about the death of Alejandro Pizano Ponce De León, son of Jorge Enrique Pizano Callejas who passed away last November, 8th.

Immediate proceedings were carried out and a criminal report was open to determine the causes of death of Pizano Ponce De Leon.

After two days of investigations the Office of the Attorney General established:

  1. According to the results of the necropsy report submitted by the National Institute of Legal Medicine, the cause of the death was poisoning by ingestion of cyanide.
  2. According to evidence that was collected from his parents’ house, it indicates that the victim found a flavored water bottle with cyanide on his father’s desk and he took a sip.
  3. According to people close to the family, the victim noticed a bad taste after he drank the water and he tried to expel the liquid but few minutes later he experienced severe stomach pains and died on the way to the hospital.
  4. Investigators received from the medical staff the flavored water bottle which is now being analyzed.

As a result of these facts, the Office of the Attorney General has opened a criminal investigation to determine the reason why this substance was in the house of  the victim´s father.
