Brothers Harold Felipe and Carlos Alfredo Castro Soto were the first Colombian citizens to whom guilty verdicts were delivered under Law 1826/2017, known as the Abbreviated Criminal Procedure Law and “Acusador Privado”1 which took effect in July 13th.
This decision was rendered after the Office of the Attorney General and the defendants (21 and 24 years old) came to an agreement. They were arrested in fragrant in July 13th while stealing a zinc roof tile from a house located in El Espinal (Tolima). They were sentenced to serve 9 months in prison.
- Acusador privado: it refers to a private person (victim) that can file criminal complaints or charges against others for misdemeanor crimes, without the police or the prosecutor’s office being involved. Private Person should be represented by a lawyer.
