A joint work between the Office of the Attorney General, National Police and Army allowed to dismantle criminal organizations involved in extorting residents, drivers, businessmen and street vendors in 26 Departments.
197 alleged extorters will stop affecting Colombian citizens’ peace and patrimony. They were arrested as a result of an offensive action and thanks to investigations and operatives which brought to light this kind of crime used to intimidate and take formal and informal workers’ money.
After 4 months of investigations and collection of evidence, the so-called Sicilia operation was conducted in 26 Departments (Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Boyacá, Tolima, Caquetá, Putumayo, Córdoba, Caldas, Risaralda, Cesar, Guajira, Quindío, Valle del Cauca, Nariño, Casanare, Santander, Arauca, Meta, Chocó, Bolívar, Atlántico, Magdalena, Sucre, Huila, Cauca and Norte de Santander).
