In a communication, Attorneys General refused possible reforms that would affect independence and autonomy

Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, supported the communication of solidarity with the Office of the Attorney General in Venezuela, specifically with Attorney general Luisa Ortega.

The communication that was signed by Attorneys General of 12 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Panamá, Paraguay, Portugal and Uruguay) was published by the Ibero-American Association of Public Prosecutors “Asociación Iberoamericana de Ministerios Públicos (AIAMP)”.

Through this communication, Attorneys General expressed their concern about the statements made against the labor carried out by the Office of the Attorney General in Venezuela since, within the framework of its constitutional and legal capacity, it is currently investigating criminal facts which took place in the months of April, May and June 2017 in that country.

The 12 senior officials reject the idea of introducing legal reforms that will affect the autonomy and independency of the Office of the Attorney General.
