The Office of the Attorney General appealed the 2nd Circuit Court´s decision (judge hearing the case* in Bogotá to sentence Fredy Armando Valencia alias “Monstruo de Monserrate” to 36 years in prison for aggravated murder since the Office of the Attorney General had requested the maximum punishment. Facts are related to the brutal murder of 8 women between years 2012 and 2014.
While asking for the maximum punishment, the delegate prosecutor stated “cases like this cannot occur again, regardless their social, moral and economic condition they might not have been murdered and punishment must be reasonable and must coincide with these dramatic facts”.
Victims were identified by experts of the Legal Institute of Medicine (Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses) as Jessica Lorena Urrego Portillo, Sonia Janeth Martínez Uribe, Leydi Johana Perilla Benítez, Sandra Lucía Acosta Ramírez, Adriana Patricia Porras Cruz and Leydi Johana Lara Saavedra.
