Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, stated in a hearing on crimes against peace “Crímenes Contra la Paz” that was conducted by the Second Chamber- House of Representatives, that there are several coincidences in regards to the origin of threats, murders and facts affecting the integrity of social leaders and for this reason, it is not possible to talk about a sole factor motivating these actions.
He also reinforced the importance that represents for the institution the investigation of facts that imply a risk for human rights defenders, social and politic leaders as happened at the time with the so called Union Patriótica in which the Office of the Attorney General implemented an strategy which involved the association of cases and analysis in a context, in order to begin legal processes against people responsible for offenses and avoiding the repetition.
