–205 members of 16 criminal gangs were arrested in the whole country

One of the achievements of the Office of the Attorney General in regards to public safety was the arrest of 205 alleged members of 16 criminal gangs that were involved in murders, extortions and drug trafficking in 11 Departments of the country.
These detentions took place in the last 48 hours thanks to the support of the National Police. This is part of a strategy implemented by the Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, when he took office last august 1st.
Since then, the Office of the Attorney General is working acutely to improve public safety by dismantling criminal gangs which threat Colombian citizens’ peace.
National Director of Regional Offices and Public Safety, Luis González León, stated that the arrested individuals besides being responsible for the commission of murder and “sicariato” (hitmen) they are being investigated for drug trafficking and forced displacement offenses.
