The Colombian Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez Neira, appointed Alexandra Valencia Molina as the first director of “Unidad Especial de Investigación para el Desmantelamiento de las Organizaciones Criminales Responsables de Homicidios y Masacres o que atenten contra Defensores/as de Derechos Humanos, Movimientos Sociales o Movimientos Políticos” 1

The assignment was made in accordance with the agreements signed by the Government and FARC at the peace negotiation team in La Habana (Cuba), according to which, the Office of the Attorney General must  create a special investigation unit for dismantling criminal organizations and their support networks, in accordance with the provisions of section 74 Special Jurisdiction for Peace.

The announcement was made by the Attorney General during a work visit in Pasto (Nariño) in which he informed about the Attorney General´s Office guidelines. “Today we have created the Unit for the Fight against Organized Crime and those who act against social leaders and human rights defenders. We will not allow impunity for those who raise their hands as aggressors against those who are peace defenders” stated Attorney General.
