The Office of the Attorney General has brought 212 people before the Court on smuggling charges. The announcement was made by the Interim Attorney General Jorge Fernando Perdomo during a meeting denominated Conversatorio de la Alianza Latinoamericana de Lucha contra el Contrabando1, in which he expressed that not only low and intermediate commands but also high ringleaders have been prosecuted in this struggle.
“We have evidently changed the methodology to investigate smuggling offenses since we are not just prosecuting “pinpineros”2 and people who smuggle in the frontier; we are also prosecuting businessmen who illegally avoid taxes”.
In the last two years, thanks to “priorización” and case analysis in context, the Office of the Attorney General has achieved 212 prosecutions that include criminal organizations ringleaders.
